IGW to the rescue!

1 September, 2021

The BMT catchphrase ‘stronger together’ has never been put up to the test more than a couple of months ago. When a tornado affected hundreds of families in South Moravia, IGW Brno employees didn’t hesitate to give a helping hand.

Extreme storm hits South Moravia

IGW-volunteers

In June, disaster struck South Moravia as an extreme storm and tornado hit several villages. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, the tornado reached the strength of F4 on the Fujit scale and was therefore the second strongest possible tornado.

Needless to say that the ravage was huge. Around 1,200 buildings, including public, agricultural and industrial buildings were destroyed. Infrastructure, trees and cars were also heavily damaged. About 200 houses were damaged beyond repair and are destined for demolition. To put it in numbers: damage to private and public property was estimated at CZK 15 billion. A disaster no one could imagine happening to them or their family.

When disaster strikes, we get to work

Firefighters, police officers and soldiers immediately intervened on the spot. Hundreds of volunteers accompanied them in cleaning up the ravage. As did we!

Moved by the destruction of the storm, IGW Brno decided to help in any way they could. They did so by providing material assistance to help clean up the destruction. In addition, IGW allowed staff volunteers to go help in the affected areas during working hours. In total there were 21 employees who offered to lend a much needed hand. The IGW Brno volunteers helped on Friday 2.7.2021. Some of them even stayed put and helped all weekend.

We are proud that IGW was able to provide assistance and that we have a team as compassionate and dedicated as the employees who volunteered to help clean up the affected areas. Hats off!
